Sandra claimed that she was inspired to explore adoption after Hurricane Katrina, which took place five years before her 2010 divorce from her ex-husband Jesse James.
The Blind Side actress said to Parenting that she “did wonder [to herself], “Maybe not,” but that she ultimately made the decision to adopt when “Katrina happened in New Orleans.” Sandra spoke to the newspaper in June 2018 and said, “Something told me, ‘My child is there.’ It was strange.”
