The great Brazilian athlete, whose full name was Edson Arantes do Nascimento, died on Thursday in Sao Paulo after a long battle with cancer.
Soon after Pele’s daughter and management verified the news, notable football players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe expressed their condolences.
Supermodel Naomi Campbell led the outpouring of condolences, writing, “Pele, you were a symbol for us and you showed us that dreams are possible. You were and will always be ONE OF A KIND, the first athlete to serve as a Unesco goodwill ambassador and a caretaker for the general public.”
